The Soylent Idiocracy: Mutual Assured Insanity.

"Corporations created the Idiocracy by dumbing everyone down to the lowest level possible, so, the sheeple wouldn't mind being assembly-line widgets on their way to being 'right-sized' for maximum profit. Also, so that they would consistently and reliably vote against their own interests. Which they did without fail. 

The shrink-wrapped Idiocracy turned to corporate junk food and junk culture to euthanize themselves against the relentless corporate onslaught. When that didn't work, they were lobotomized with colossal doses of chemical pharmaceuticals also conveniently provided by the corporations. The sums of money required to keep the chronically ill on life support aka. chemicals, grew to astronomical and asinine proportions. I mean, profit.

An entire generation laid itself off for corporate profit. At the time, it was called early retirement at age 25. Out of nowhere, corporate profits plunged to zero. Everyone was shocked and outraged...

One by one they went insane and started rampaging with assault rifles which they bought over the internet. The NRA advised that there were not enough guns to keep everyone safe. Mass shootings soon outnumbered days of the year, so the Idiocracy added more days to the year to give everyone a fair chance...

Corporations bought and sold their government stooges like they were penny stocks. The college system became solely a means for stratifying society into "winners" and proles. Corporations had outsourced everything so they didn't need anyone smarter than a fucking doorknob.  

It was all considered 'business as usual', right to the very end.
