Social media and the internet have taken Borg-mentality to a previously inconceivable level...
"Groupthink is a psychological phenomenon that occurs within a group of people in which the desire for harmony or conformity in the group results in an irrational or dysfunctional decision-making outcome. Group members try to minimize conflict and reach a consensus decision without critical evaluation of alternative viewpoints by actively suppressing dissenting viewpoints, and by isolating themselves from outside influences."
Thus the "ingroup" significantly overrates its own abilities in decision-making and significantly underrates the abilities of its opponents (the "outgroup"). Furthermore, groupthink can produce dehumanizing actions against the "outgroup".
Hillary Clinton's biggest mistake was claiming there is nothing wrong with America - it only needs a bit of fine tuning. That signaled more of the same bullshit that had been wearing people out for eight years straight. It cost her the election, with help from Facebook, the FBI, and Russia.
Trump by contrast, galvanized his base around a plan of action to reclaim lost glory. By blaming other countries for all of America's problems.
He had found his "outgroup" and he went about dehumanizing them to the maximum extent possible. The gambit worked of course. And to this day, thinly veiled racism is his trump card, literally. The entire "strategy" is predicated upon the theory that America is perfect, but it's these foreigners screwing everything up.
In a nutshell, it's a blind spot that ignores the extent to which America's economy is dependent upon other countries. A higher standard of living that was predicated upon the Faustian rules of Globalization: Jobs and factories go in one direction, corporate profits flow back.
There is no possible way to accomplish what Trump says he wants to accomplish for the domestic economy, while keeping "stocks" and profits at all time highs.
That is the core of the MAGA delusion that is now unraveling in broad daylight.
