The Middle East: Graveyard of Egos And Empires

The U.S. overthrew the Iranian government in 1953. Twenty-seven years later, the Iranians threw out the U.S. puppet government. In retaliation, the U.S. supported Saddam Hussein during the Iran Iraq war (1980-1988).

Around that same time, the Soviets Union went into Afghanistan, and then collapsed nine years later. Afghanistan was already known as the "graveyard of empires".

That seemed like such a great idea, the U.S. tried it as well. Attacking former ally Iraq at the same time for good measure, based upon fake and contrived "intelligence". The two biggest blunders in U.S. history, after Vietnam. Sadly taken up by the same armchair generals who had dodged the 1960s draft.

Now, both flagging empires are converging in Syria, which is seeing the largest human migration in modern history.

ISIS loves these keystone cops.
