Globalization has fabricated a generation of human bulldozers who start with their own self-interest in mind and then work backwards from there. They have a megalomaniacal end result that they want to achieve and then they go about deciding how they can achieve it, by any means necessary. Any type of detailed analysis of facts, data or long-term social benefit is of no concern whatsoever. These are the ultimate glassy eyed buffoons, now running amok in positions of leadership everywhere on this planet.

"Extend and Pretend" is of course the Frankenmonster merging of fiscal and monetary policy in order to create the current illusion-formerly-known-as-the-economy. However, it's far worse than that because by artificially levitating financial assets to all time highs and holding them there, this contrivance has reverse engineered social mood to create the sugar buzz that seduces the masses into buying into the illusion. The first part of this past five years was convincing the masses to buy back into the illusion by convincing them to take more risks than they would otherwise take. Had they been told the truth from the beginning that the pseudo-recovery is just that - merely a thinly disguised illusion, then of course they would be risk averse right now. No bigger house, bigger car, no shopping sprees on Thanksgiving Day. However, the sociopaths wanted everyone to buy into their self-absorbed illusion 100%, so that it could expand to the full extent of its unnatural limits while they realized their deranged fantasies. At this point, the Borg has no choice, they are now FULLY bought into the illusion, therefore the lie is self-propagating by the Borg at large who desperately need it to be real. They are ALL IN. So now, the Borg is the illusion. Everyone around us creates the illusion.
Granted The Lie is fraying a bit around the edges to say the least, giving us a convenient, if not extremely mild, preview of the future. These ever-escalating domestic shootouts, the geopolitical meltdown in real-time, these "events" are no coincidence. They are a result of the "cognitive dissonance" arising from the disconnect between what people are being told and what they are seeing and experiencing first-hand. At the outer limits of the Empire, the illusion has already collapsed. There is no more pretending in those places. But for the rest of the Globalized Empire, even at this late juncture, the Idiocracy is mostly only fixated on their own little bubble and the lies that sustain it.

Based on the garbage spewing forth from every single media outlet, the number of people even capable of seeing through The Lie is a statistical rounding error at best. The opportunity for "surprise" is total.
