"The first casualty of war is the truth"
Since the day the post 9/11 "War on terror" began, the truth has been missing in action...
From an historical perspective, decades from now, historians will say that the 9/11 attack was an inevitable "blow back" reaction to U.S. (and British) intervention in the Middle East since the day oil was discovered.
The irony is that if the U.S. really wanted to hurt the Taliban and Al Qaeda, then this country should have stopped buying oil from the Middle East a long time ago. Once that flow of money ended, that entire region would have returned to the Stone Age. The impetus to stop buying oil from that region dates back to the 1974 oil embargo, which was a wake up call to the West that buying oil from that region was not a good long-term solution.
So the green energy movement of the late 1970s was a nascent attempt to solve two problems that are still with us today 1) reliance on Middle East oil 2) reliance on hydrocarbons
When the price of oil collapsed in the early 1980s however, the green energy movement died on the vine. It couldn't compete.
Defending Corruption Wherever Oil Can be Found
Fast forward 30 years and it's deja vu all over again. The U.S. spends trillions to combat this amorphous war some call "terrorism" which really amounts to a cumulative hatred for the West, now instilled across the entire Arab World. They don't trust a country that would make alliance with the Saudi Royal Family, the Shah of Iran, Saddam Hussein, Hosni Mubarak, Muammar Gadhaffi, the Kuwaiti Royal Family, and every other massively corrupt potentate in the region, only to gain access to oil, all while showering junk food and junk culture on the supposedly morally inferior "heathens".
In other words, this "war" can and will go on a lot longer than the U.S. Treasury and Rush Limbaugh can last.
Hiding Under the Bed, From the Truth
My point in all of this goes back to the title of the post. This fucked up "energy + war" policy is all merely an overwhelming function of suppressing the truth. The same people who support the ongoing overuse of hydrocarbons, also support profligate never-ending military blunders in the Middle East. These people are also Global Warming denialists and in no way support a green energy movement. They now support "fracking" which is a latent environmental catastrophe that won't end U.S. dependence on Middle East oil any time in forever. Apparently, 50% of Americans don't "believe" in man-made global warming, which by sheer coincidence happens to be the combined number of hillbillies driving pickup trucks and yuppies driving SUVs. Unfortunately, the brick wall of reality doesn't give a flying fuck what Ted Nugent & Company "believes" about anything.
This "package" of unsustainable and asinine policy is merely maintained by a thin facade of propaganda and brain washing that will blow away like dust when the Arab nations push out the last remaining Western-stooge potentates - a purging that is already well underway. Then will come the dawning realization that this entire "foreign policy" was nothing more than a dog and pony show propagated by bullshit spewing Neo-Con artists for a willing populace, sitting at home under attack from their own knife and fork. Worse yet will be the realization that these same amateur "thought leaders" who got the U.S. into this mess, can't manage their way out of a fucking paper bag.
As I say, the underwear will be mighty stained at that juncture.
